PROGRESSIVE WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION "VICTORIA KENT" is working with the carnival's Chirigota Girls "Las Niñas", with its "Menea, menea o matilde se cabrera"
 
 
 
 
  The carnival in the city of Algeciras has its origins in the late eighteenth century but during the nineteenth century when the party is taking more importance in the city.

   In 1937 there is a ban on the party by the dictatorship of General "Franco". The contest begins his new stage groups performing at the "Florida" Theatre, built in 1945.

   As we have documented, there never was a group of women in carnival groups contest Algeciras. It is true that there was a female family "chirigota", which he sang on the street but did not present the competition, perhaps by the time they lived, would assume that not easy.

   This year 2012, we are fortunate to have in Algeciras, a female "chirigota", now known by many to be the "chirigota" of the girls. They are the first women in Algeciras we will participate in the contest carnival of "Florida" theater groups, and was lucky enough to have anticipated the opening of this theater.
 
 

   The group has shown its gratitude to all entities advertising their contributions have helped to get an instrument, a type, etc, especially the Progressive Women's Association of "Victoria Kent" and Academy of Dance "Al Son Cubero". And of course "Fyespa S.L" for leaving them a place to rehearse every day.

   The carnival groups have historically been made by men but in recent years the role of women has gained importance because women's groups they have made a reputation in the competition for the failure, broadcast each year by "Canal Sur TV". This has affected the various competitions held and the role of women is increasingly present at this event.

   The Association has been fighting for gender equality since its inception and that is why it supports the people who make this equality in all fields, in this case the Carnival.
